When her boyfriend, Jimmy, forgets a date, Tessie McGuire, a department store clerk, attends a party at the studio of Robert Brandt where she makes a hit with impersonations.  There Riccardi offers her a job impersonating a Russian countess in his style emporium.

While she is fighting off suitors, Jimmy becomes successful with his automobile invention.  However, when he returns to find Tessie wealthy in gowns, he accuses her of being "manhandled."  Repenting her mistake, she is forgiven when he realizes her true feelings.
