Zaza, a Parisian music hall soubrette, falls in love with Bernard Dufresne, a French diplomat, whom she believes to be unmarried.  When she learns the truth from Florianne, a jealous colleague, she releases Dufresne, despite his offers to divorce his wife.

Years later, Zaza is reunited with Dufresne after his wife has died.
